Hey There, I’m Makenzie

I graduated in May 2014 from Kansas State University with a B.F.A. in graphic design and a B.A. in art history. I have over 10 years of professional experience in graphic design. I’m currently a senior graphic designer for Black & Veatch where I’ve been working in the governments & environment department since 2018. I’ve worked with world renowned engineers, project managers, client directors, proposal coordinators, and strategists. Throughout the years I’ve focused mainly on proposals, interview presentations, brochures, booklets, aerials, illustrations, complicated drawings, branding, posters, advertisements, and magazines. Since joining the team in 2018, I have been the lead designer on numerous winning pursuits worth millions of dollars across the globe.

Previously, I was a designer for Design Resources Incorporated, a Nike licensee located in Overland Park, Kansas. While there, I produced collegiate apparel and sportswear for the Nike brand. My apparel designs were approved by Nike in Beaverton, Oregon. You can see these designs at retailers throughout the country.

Before that, I was a graphic design intern for Kansas State University Career and Employment Services where I created marketing materials for different events around campus. The saying, “you’ll learn everything on the job,” has proven correct throughout my professional experiences over the years.

Philosophy

As a natural problem solver, I love the challenges and answers design can bring into the world. I believe design has an opportunity to tell a story, communicate an intention and provoke thoughtful action. My work is produced with great attention to detail, complimentary color palettes, expressive typography and clear communication.
